Person Dies After Being Struck by Train at Stevenage Railway Station

A person has died after being struck by a train at Stevenage Railway Station on Tuesday morning, causing major disruption to rail services throughout the area.

According to the British Transport Police, officers were called to the station on Lytton Way at approximately 11:32 a.m. alongside paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities later confirmed the incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

Witnesses at the station reported that the individual allegedly entered the path of a moving train near Platform 2 shortly before emergency crews arrived.

The tragic incident led to significant disruption across rail services operating through Stevenage, with Great Northern and Thameslink warning passengers of severe delays and cancellations between London, Stevenage, Peterborough, and Cambridge.

In a service update, rail operators stated:

“Please be aware that due to the emergency services dealing with an incident at Stevenage, train services running through this station may be delayed.”

Officials advised travelers to expect extended delays and allow at least an additional hour for journeys along the affected routes.

Passengers described a somber atmosphere at the station as emergency personnel secured the scene and trains were halted.

“There were a lot of police and ambulance crews there very quickly,” one commuter said. “Everyone was shocked and upset.”

Rail services experienced widespread delays throughout the afternoon as investigators worked at the scene and authorities coordinated recovery efforts.

The incident remains under investigation.
