Middleburg Mourns Bryce Austin After Fatal Head-On Crash on County Road 218
The Middleburg community is mourning the tragic loss of Bryce Austin following a deadly head-on crash Wednesday morning on County Road 218.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred near Eagle Point Road and involved two trucks that collided head-on, forcing authorities to close County Road 218 in both directions for several hours while emergency crews responded and investigators processed the scene.
Officials confirmed that one driver died as a result of the collision. That victim was later identified as Bryce Austin.
The second driver involved in the crash was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries. Their current condition has not yet been publicly released.
Traffic in the area remained heavily impacted throughout the morning before the roadway was eventually reopened to motorists.
News of Bryce Austin’s death has sent shockwaves throughout the Middleburg community and among students, faculty, and friends connected to Middleburg High School, where Bryce was remembered as a beloved member of the school community.
Loved ones described Bryce as someone deeply cherished by family and friends whose life touched many people around him.
Bryce was also the beloved son of Heather Gallagher, a respected cardiac cath lab technician at HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital.
Friends and community members have continued sharing condolences and tributes online as they mourn the devastating and sudden loss.
“This is absolutely heartbreaking,” one tribute read. “Prayers for Bryce’s family, friends, and everyone who loved him.”
Others remembered Bryce for his kindness, personality, and the positive impact he made on those around him.
Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the collision as the investigation remains ongoing. 
The tragic crash serves as another painful reminder of how quickly lives can change on area roadways.
