Lockdown Issued as Police Search for Armed Suspect in Middletown
Residents in parts of Middletown have been ordered to shelter in place Tuesday as multiple law enforcement agencies search for an armed suspect following a reported shooting incident.
In an emergency release issued by the Middletown Police Department, officials confirmed officers are actively investigating a shooting within the city. Authorities stated that investigators currently believe the incident was isolated and that the individuals involved are known to one another.
Police emphasised that no injuries have been reported at this time.
However, officials warned that an armed suspect may still be on foot in the area, prompting an immediate shelter-in-place order for several neighbourhoods and streets, including:
- East Street
- Westlake Drive
- Smith Street
- Country Club Road
- Atkins Street
The suspect is described as a white male with long hair and a beard who was last seen wearing all black clothing.
Authorities are urging residents in the affected areas to remain indoors, lock all doors and windows, and immediately report any suspicious activity by calling 911.
The search operation involves officers from the Middletown Police Department alongside Cromwell Police Department and Connecticut State Police.
Witnesses reported seeing a heavy police presence throughout the area Tuesday, including patrol vehicles searching neighbourhoods

while officers moved through nearby streets.
Residents nearby described hearing police activity and receiving urgent alerts instructing them to remain inside.
“It’s definitely unsettling seeing so many police cars everywhere,” one resident said. “Everyone is staying inside and trying to be cautious.”
Officials continue asking the public to avoid the affected area while emergency personnel conduct their investigation and search efforts safely.
No additional details about the shooting incident or the suspect’s whereabouts have been released at this time.
Further updates are expected as the investigation develops.
It would be a great idea to send an alert for something like this over the cell services. Maybe use all the money the town is making from their speed trap cameras
