Student Dies Following Tragic Incident at South Kingstown High School in Wakefield
The Wakefield community is mourning after a student tragically died Monday following an incident at South Kingstown High School.
According to reports, multiple emergency agencies were dispatched to the school campus located at 215 Columbia Street after an emergency involving a student unfolded earlier in the day.
Witness accounts indicate that a young female student reportedly went to an upper level of the school building before falling onto the concrete area below. Emergency responders quickly arrived on scene and transported the student to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
School officials later sent a message to students and parents acknowledging the emergency situation and confirming that crisis support services would be made available on campus.
In the statement, administrators wrote:
“We are writing to let you know that we had an emergency situation involving a student this morning. We immediately followed our safety protocols, including contacting emergency responders. There are no safety concerns.”
The message also encouraged students to seek emotional support from counselors and trusted adults as the school community processes the tragedy.
“We understand that situations like this can be upsetting and may bring up a range of emotions,” the statement read. “Counselors and staff are available throughout the day and this week in the Guidance Office.”
Students and parents described a heartbreaking and emotional atmosphere across campus following the incident, with many classmates visibly shaken as emergency crews responded.
Authorities have not publicly released the identity of the student involved.

Officials also have not disclosed additional details surrounding the circumstances of the incident as investigations continue.
Grief counselors and support staff are expected to remain available for students, teachers, and families impacted by the tragedy in the coming days.
The South Kingstown and Wakefield communities have already begun sharing messages of support, condolences, and prayers for the student’s family, classmates, and school staff during this devastating time.
If you or someone you know is struggling with emotional distress or thoughts of suicide, support is available through crisis hotlines, school counselors, mental health professionals, and local support services.
How does a student get on the roof is what I want to know!!! The school needs better safety protocols, I find this very upsetting. The poor family I pray for them.
My exact thoughts.
Why is there not more about this story? I feel like no one is bringing enough attention to it. She was so young and the fact that she felt the only way out of her situation was to die is absolutely heartbreaking. I didn’t know her but I think about her every day and I hope her story can show people that mental illness is not a joke and shouldn’t be taken lightly. Also, No student should ever have access to the roof, that is something I cannot even comprehend.
