One Dead After Apparent Suicide at North Riverside Mall

A heavy police presence surrounded North Riverside Park Mall Tuesday afternoon following reports of a shooting that authorities say is being investigated as an apparent suicide.

According to officials, law enforcement officers and emergency responders were dispatched to the mall around 3 p.m. after receiving reports of a gunshot.

When officers arrived at the scene, they located one person suffering from a critical injury consistent with a gunshot wound.

Despite lifesaving efforts, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities later stated that the incident is being investigated as a suicide and emphasised that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Witnesses inside the mall described a tense scene as police quickly secured the area and directed shoppers away from portions of the property while emergency crews responded.

Some visitors reported hearing screams and seeing people rushing out of nearby sections of the mall shortly after the incident occurred.
