Canadian Armed Forces Veteran MWO (Retired) Perry Basha Dies Unexpectedly at 49
Family, friends, and members of the Canadian military community are mourning the heartbreaking and unexpected passing of Perry Basha, who died on May 12, 2026, at the age of 49.
Born on April 5, 1977, Perry Shawn Basha lived a life defined by loyalty, humour, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the people he loved most.
A retired Master Warrant Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, Perry proudly served his country through a distinguished military career that shaped him into a man admired for his discipline, resilience, integrity, and quiet strength.
Those who knew him say the values he carried from military service – honour, camaraderie, and selflessness – extended into every part of his life.
Perry is survived by his beloved wife, Melanie Basha, and their cherished children, Nicholas, Jaxson, and Julie, who remained the centre of his world and greatest source of pride.
He also leaves behind his loving mother, Lillian Basha; siblings Marilyn, Mona, and Fred; extended family members; nieces and nephews; and countless friends whose lives were forever touched by his warmth and kindness.
Perry was predeceased by his father, Clayton Basha, in 2024, and his brother, Wayne Basha, in 1997 — losses that remained deeply meaningful throughout his life.
Loved ones described Perry as a charismatic and unforgettable presence who had a unique gift for bringing people together through laughter and storytelling.
“Wherever Perry went, laughter followed,” one family member shared. “He could turn even the simplest moment into something unforgettable.”
Friends say his quick wit, booming laugh, and larger-than-life personality made everyone around him feel welcome and connected.
Beyond his humour, Perry was remembered for his generosity, steady support, and devotion to family and friends. Many say he was the kind of person people naturally gravitated toward in difficult times because of his compassion and reassuring presence.
His family also reflected on the close friendships that shaped his life, including his bond with best friend Craig Quigley, whose memory Perry carried with him always.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation and memorial services at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services on Monday, June 8, 2026.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Hall of Colours, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. in the Sacred Space chapel. Interment will take place afterward at the National Military Cemetery at Beechwood Cemetery, with a reception to follow in the Borden-Fleming Room.
